StandOut Youth is proud to announce that through our efforts to give back to the community, we were able to donate an estimated $1668 worth of clothing, bedding and toys for the children of Greenbriar Children’s Center.

In addition, SOY participated in sponsored gift-wrapping at the Savannah Mall, with all proceeds going back to the center. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who participated in the gift-wrapping as well as helping us sponsor 13 out of 16 youth with wish lists for the holidays. We could not have done it without you.

Also, earlier this month, StandOut Youth participated in the Global Peace Tiles Project, a program that aims to "build bonds between people and communities through art"(Torres, 2005). The Peace Tiles Project is used to raise awareness about several issues that affect all of us through a combination of collage and mural work. The youth used assorted media to create their personal Peace Tile as a reflection of their own struggles, views and creativity.

Moreover, StandOut Youth is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Kent Richard Hofmann Foundation. The money from said grant will be used towards sponsoring HIV testing, education and counseling support for youth. In the next coming weeks SOY will be providing further detail regarding testing and counseling hours. For now, we are extremely excited to be able to provide testing and counseling services for youth that at times may be scared to go to a testing center by themselves.
If you would like to participate in one of our activities, or volunteer just come to one of our meetings. We meet every Friday from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at the FCN building located on 307 E Harris Street. Until next time just remember, “Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness” – Seneca.
